How Many Instax Photos Do You Need at a Wedding?
Instax film comes in packs of ten, so a little planning is the difference between running dry before the first dance and going home with a full stack of keepsakes.
Instant cameras are having a wedding moment — they're the charming, see-it-now upgrade to the old disposable. But because each pack holds only ten shots, couples often ask the same practical question: how much film do we actually need? Here's a clear way to plan it.
Start with the rule of thumb
When an instant camera is making the rounds, plan for roughly one photo per guest as a baseline — some guests won't touch it, while others will happily burn through five, and it tends to even out. If you want the camera to be a real centerpiece of the night, aim a little higher, closer to one and a half photos per guest.
By guest count
| Guests | Comfortable amount | Packs of 10 |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | 50–60 prints | 5–6 |
| 100 | 100–120 prints | 10–12 |
| 150 | 150–180 prints | 15–18 |
| 200 | 200–240 prints | 20–24 |
It's always smart to keep a spare pack or two in reserve — running out at 9pm is the one regret couples mention.
One camera or two?
A single instant camera works beautifully for up to about 100 guests. Past that, a second camera keeps a line from forming and lets two corners of the room — say the dance floor and the dinner tables — get covered at once. Two cameras also doubles your film capacity naturally.
Make the photos do something
The magic of instant film is that the print exists immediately, so give it a home. The favorite move is a photo guest book: set out a album, a few pens, and glue dots, and ask guests to tuck in their photo with a note. By the end of the night you have a book full of candid faces and handwriting — far more personal than a signature line.
Two quick technical tips
Mind the light. Instant cameras have a short flash range — about 8–9 feet. Indoors and after dark, keep subjects close and let the flash fire. Backlit shots against bright windows or uplighting will come out dark.
Store the film cool. Instant film is happiest at room temperature and used before its date. Don't leave packs baking in a hot car the afternoon of the wedding.
How it works with Forever Tapes
An Instax camera is an add-on to any Forever Tapes collection — it comes included with the Club Edition (40 prints) and the Signature (two cameras, 80 prints), and you can add it to any package. It pairs naturally with your guest-filmed film: the camcorder captures the day in motion and sound, while the instant prints give everyone something to hold that night.
